SHfiguarts Zectrooper Shadow

A quick review of SHfiguarts Zectrooper (Shadow Ver.) from 2006’s Kamen Rider Kabuto.

Zectrooper, to put it simply, is Kabuto’s version of 555’s Riotroopers. In other words, they’re generally just cannon fodder used for showing how epicly awesome other Riders are by getting trashed real badly. Zectrooper SHADOWs, however, are an elite squad of Zectroopers under the command of Kamen Rider TheBee, which is why they have the goldish stripes on them.

Unlike the Riotroopers, however, there’s actually a variety of Zectroopers: the normal ones, the white trainee ones, the Shadow ones and the Neotroopers from God Speed Love. Out of all these, the Shadow ver. is the only one that’s a general regular release while the rest are exclusives (not much of a surprise, is it?)

Zectrooper Shadow (I’m calling him Shadowtrooper from now on, for convenience’s sake) has an all-new mold that doesn’t reuse parts from other Kabuto riders. Accessorywise, he comes with the usual optional hands and an arm-mounted blaster/gun. The blaster has a hinged sidegrip for Shadowtrooper to grip using his other hand.

In terms of details, Zectrooper doesn’t exactly have lots of paint apps. However, he’s very well-sculpted. The bodysuit is sculpted to look kinda like a loose-fitting uniform just like the onscreen appearance. My only gripe, however, is that the bodysuit bits are kinda shiny and plasticky, while the promo pics actually used one with matte parts. Well, at least the head, chest, forearms and boots are matte.

Despite having plastic feet, Shadowtrooper manages to hold poses with relative ease. ^^

As for articulation, there’s not much to be said. He has the usual SHF level of articulation and poseability, so nothing new there.

At first, I had assumed that I wouldn’t be able to get that many fun poses out of Shadowtrooper, since Zectroopers generally don’t have a lot of poses, apart from gripping/aiming their armblasterthingy. Surprisingly, he can achieve quite a bit of whacky poses…

… like this.

… and these. ^^

Well admittedly most of them are him getting whacked up, but then that’s the case in the show too.

“… don’t remind me of that time I got beaten real badly. No, not that time, that other time.”

Zectrooper’s a surprisingly fun figure, well worth it if bought at a decent price.

oh btw, didnt Zectrooper have a blade attachment for his cannon in the show?

    • February 16, 2011 at 10:56 pm

I think he does. The SHF obviously doesn’t have one.

Kinda miffed that Zectrooper’s arms and legs aren’t matte. I mean, who wears a semigloss combat suit?

Indeed, it’s a combat suit after all.
