SHFiguarts Kamen Rider Accel

Your goal is despair!

A review of Kamen Rider W’s secondary Rider, Accel.

First introduced at the end of Movie War 2010’s end credits, Accel is Kamen Rider W’s secondary Rider. Like a few other secondary Riders, he started off being somewhat against the main Rider, only to gradually side with the titular Rider. In the show, Accel has the unique ability to transform into a bike form, something which the SHFiguarts release is unable to do. (Fret not though, Bandai might be releasing a Figuarts of his bike form with AccelGunner.) As such, Accel’s design features some bike parts, which has proven to be somewhat controversial among some fans.

SHFiguarts Accel, like the onscreen costume, is mainly metallic red with silver bits. Unlike SHFiguarts W, however, Accel has color-accurate elbow and knee joints. Instead, he has red wrist joints, though they’re well-hidden by the hand pieces. Articulationwise, he has basically the same articulation as W, but his chest armor and AccelDriver somewhat restrict the ab-crunch movement. Also, the collar restricts the head movement. However, the semiwheels on his legs are balljointed and can fully rotate.

Accel has some really nice headlight-eye sculpting behind his blue visor. However, there’s a problem with this; the blue is too dark, making the headlight details not quite visible. A way to get around this, however, is to remove the eye visor and paint the details silver. Nonetheless, very nice.

Accel comes with his signature weapon, the Engine Blade. The Memory Slot on it can be opened, though the lack of any Memory kinda renders it useless. A nice touch though.

Accel! Maximum Drive!

*crouches*

Hyaaah!

Your goal is despair.

Accel is able to hold poses pretty well, like the other Figuarts.

“Isaka… Shinkurou!”

Overall, Accel’s another great addition to the W series SHFiguarts. Do note, however, that my Accel’s Acceldriver was modified by me to look more screen-accurate; the standard one doesn’t have anything on the Driver buckle.

Nice stuff, but you are right, the eyes are too dark!

    • January 17, 2011 at 10:47 pm

Yeah, and I’m worried something will go wrong if I try to remove the visor.

    Is Accel gloss or matte?

    • January 17, 2011 at 10:55 pm

      It’s more like semi-gloss, I guess.

wow i didnt noe accel’s eyes are detailed, the eyes are too dark to see.

    • January 25, 2011 at 9:11 pm

It’s a waste when the eyes are too dark to see the inner details, like what happened with Decade Violent Emotion…

yah, maybe rerelease will have better color eyes?

      • January 26, 2011 at 8:48 pm

I kinda doubt so. So far all the rereleases don’t really have any change in color (except Gatack’s has lousier eye paint).

Accel’s “horn” is made up of 2 parts?

    • January 25, 2011 at 9:01 pm

Yes, the upper part is a separate piece. Probably due to toy safety regulations (SH Blade’s horn is a separate piece too)

I suppose you can just paint over the red wrist joints…

Nice photography. Do you use a lightbox?

    • February 1, 2011 at 10:23 pm

No. I don’t have a lightbox, so what I’m currently using is pretty much natural light and my room’s ceiling light.
