SHfiguarts Kamen Rider Drake

One of the Riders from 2006’s Kamen Rider Kabuto, Kamen Rider Drake wields the Drake Zecter, which is both his henshin device and weapon.

Drake, along with Sasword, has a design that is quite a departure from the other Kabuto designs. Both Drake and Sasword are asymmetrical, unlike most Riders throughout the years. Drake’s motif is based on a dragonfly. His left shoulder is a dragonfly head, the torso’s the wings, while his entire right arm is the tail. Quite an interesting design actually, so I’m not surprised that some people don’t quite fancy him. The main factors that attract me to Drake are that: 1- the blue is awesome, 2- he’s a gun-using Rider, and 3- his eyes look really nice. His on-show portrayal, however, didn’t interest me much admittedly.

His Figuarts release is pretty show-accurate, right down to the detailing on the “wings” on his torso. He has a very nice shade of metallic blue, and the detailing on his eyes are really impressive too. His articulation, however, is somewhat limited compared to other Kabuto releases, due to the asymmetrical design. Because of the chest’s wing, his right arm’s articulation is severely limited. Though the right arm uses the exact same joint system as the rest, the wing actually restricts the arm from moving upwards/forward/backwards much. Moving the arm too much tends to lead to the shoulder armor popping off. To make matters worse, Drake typically carries his gun using his right hand…

Accessories-wise, Drake comes with extra optional hands, and a single Drake Zecter/Grip. The Drake Zecter/Grip’s molded in one solid piece, meaning that Drake can’t be posed pulling the tab at the end of the Zecter (unlike SHF Kuuga Pegasus).

Overall, Drake’s a decent figure, but quite a disappointment compared to the other Kabuto SHFs.

The makeup artist…. Although I haven’t watched that far yet in Kabuto, only at wp 9, I have heard of this guy… The makeup duel!

SHF’s color choice so far is pretty accurate, gotta admit that.

It’s odd how Drake only comes with the open-wings zecter, whereas the Souchaku Henshin one has the zecter in both modes.

Which is why many people were complaining about it when Drake first came out. D:
